Technical translations by a qualified translator who is also a qualified engineer

Aredok is not a translation agency; it is my one-man business offering translations from German into English in specialist technical fields.

I am a qualified engineer who is also a qualified translator of English mother tongue. The business will also remain small. Why? To keep very tight control on that which is most important to you the customer - quality.

I offer translations in specific areas, areas where I also have the necessary technical expertise as well as language skills. This means that your text is not only translated, but the technical context also understood.

The advantages are clear: appropriate use of terminology and register in the translated text. Furthermore, nobody is going to read your text as thoroughly as a translator. If any of those irritating, but seemingly impossible to eradicate minor errors have crept into your text, with a full understanding of the technical content I am in a position to be able to detect and warn you of such minor problems.

So why use a small business rather than a large agency with an extensive pool of translators?

Consistency: one of the key problems over a series of translations is one of consistency, that is consistency of terminology, style and register. With me you will always be using the same translator so you always receive the same high quality work, in accordance with your instructions, with consistent style and terminology, time after time. An agency may well not use the same translator from one job to the next.

Direct contact: you the customer have direct contact with the translator, this makes it much easier to convey your instructions, and to address problem areas or any queries that may arise during the job. If, after delivery, you have a question as to why a specific term was used, all you have to do is pick up the phone, or send an e-mail, and ask the translator directly.

Confidentiality: the more organisations and people involved in the chain, the less control you have on who sees your documentation. I always maintains strict confidentiality, however if required, a confidentiality agreement can also be concluded. Furthermore, in these days of scares about Internet and e-mail security, at your request all e-mail and/or attachments (such as your files for translation) can be sent encrypted.

Cost: you will find my prices reasonable, just ask for a quote. Since prices are always in the customer's local currency using the local pricing method (per line, word, or 1,000 words), no pricing information is given on this site.

I will of course also provide a free sample translation (maximum 2 pages / 50 lines / 500 words) so that you can judge for yourself the quality of my work.
